HSC English Standard Paper 2 Practice Papers

20 original practice papers for Year 12 students preparing for the NSW HSC. Each paper is Paper 2, Language, Identity and Culture, Close Study of Literature and The Craft of Writing (2027 format): 60 marks in three 20-mark sections, 2 hours plus 5 minutes reading time in the real exam, with a full worked solution for every question.

These papers follow the 2027 exam structure of the NSW English Standard course (English Standard 11-12 Syllabus 2024, first examined in the 2027 HSC): Paper 1 Texts and Human Experiences (40 marks) and Paper 2 Language, Identity and Culture, Close Study of Literature and The Craft of Writing (60 marks). Set-text questions rotate through texts from the 2027-28 NESA prescribed list, and the model answers name the text they use. If your class studies a different text, apply the same method to it. The 2027 marking guidelines were not published when these papers were written, so mark bands are TPH's own. They are not NESA papers.

Plan your practice

All 20 papers use different questions, so every paper you add is new practice, not a repeat. After each paper, mark it with the worked solutions, note the topics that cost you marks, then use the next paper to check you have fixed them.

Questions about these papers

Are these official past exam papers?

No, and that is deliberate. Official past papers are copyrighted, limited in quantity and often out of date with current syllabus specifications. Test Papers Hub produces original practice papers written from scratch to mirror real exam structures, question styles, time limits and difficulty. You get fresh, unseen practice that behaves like the real test.

Which exams do you cover?

NSW Selective and Opportunity Class (OC) tests, Year 2 to 4 English and Maths, EduTest and HAST entry tests, NSW HSC, VCE (Victoria), QCE (Queensland), AMEB Music Theory (Grades 2 to 5), UCAT ANZ, Digital SAT, ACT, AP, GCSE Maths and CFA Levels I and II. We add exams over time. If you do not see yours, tell us and we will prioritise it.

What makes your worked solutions different?

Most answer keys give a letter (for example "Answer: C") or dense working written for teachers. Every question in our papers comes with a numbered, line-by-line solution in plain language, an explanation of why each wrong option fails, and a one-line key takeaway. Wherever a diagram, graph or structural formula speeds up learning, we include one. Students can self-correct and learn independently.

How difficult are your papers compared to the real test?

We aim for papers at least as demanding as the real test, including the harder questions that separate top candidates, and we check each paper against the published format and syllabus. A strong result on our papers is a useful sign of readiness, but no practice paper can predict an exam result, and real exams vary from year to year.

How and when will I receive my order?

Straight after checkout. A receipt with a secure link to download your PDF is emailed to you, sent by our payment partner Polar, so check your spam folder if it does not arrive within a few minutes. All files are high-resolution PDFs you can print for pen-and-paper practice or open on any tablet or PC.
